A community garden is a dedicated piece of land gardened collectively by a group of people. Many of the participants learn for the first time how to grow their own food in a relaxed, interactive and fun way. All over Ireland, local people, community and health workers and educationalists are setting up community gardens in their neighbourhoods, schools, and day-care centres as they see gardening as beneficial to peoples' wellbeing. The gardens help in no small way to build and strengthen the sense of local community by providing opportunities for people, young and old to interact, learn from one another and make new friends.
