A Green Infrastructure for Ireland

The term "Green infrastructure" refers to a network of green spaces that connect ecosystems and helps them function more as nature intended. Green spaces include forests, parks and sports areas, dedicated walking/cycling routes and natural areas, habitats and wetlands. European governments are endorsing the need to develop green infrastructure because it benefits both biodiversity and human wellbeing. The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) says 40% of the World economy is based directly or indirectly on the use of biological resources and so governments are seeing a value in protecting the natural environment. Thankfully, they have begun to see nature as a public good and an infrastructure as important as transport and energy infrastructure. Green Infrastructure must promote social  inclusion

A sustainable framework for 'green infrastructure' should promote social inclusion so that all citizens living or working in the region benefit in a variety of ways.
